ELLE and H&M Fashion Network Event

by Helen Coakley

Last Wednesday Katie  and I were invited to attend the ELLE and H&M Fashion Network Event, held at London’s flagship H&M store over on Oxford Street.  We were also joined by our lovely blogger friend Jaime London Boy and enjoyed an evening listening to the pearls of wisdom that some of British ELLE magazine’s elite had to say.

With the focus on ‘how to get your dream job’, Anna Ogundehin, (ELLE’s Acting Executive Fashion Editor) took to the mic and addressed the importance of research, dedication and determination in order to successfully make it in the fashion industry.  It was also interesting to hear Anna explaining the many different aspects of her job, as well as how she came to be at ELLE.  Anna and her colleagues were also on hand to individually chat to guests and answer their questions on how to make it in the industry (Katie didn’t seem to want to let them go!).

With unemployment for young adults and University leavers becoming a serious headache for the Government at the moment, it was refreshing to see such huge fashion names bringing their collective clout together to organise this event.  We even got treated to a courtesy copy of this month’s magazine…for aspirational purposes I am sure.

#TodayImWearing: Katie and Sophie Day Two of LFW

by Sophie Caldecott

Well, that should really be ‘yesterday I was wearing’… You’ll be glad to hear my camera has been fixed after its adventures out and about London Fashion Week with Style and Then Some, so I can share a little bit more of our LFW style.

Our ever stylish editor Katie, below, mixed a vintage M&S 80′s shirt with a high-waisted vintage skirt from Blitz on Brick Lane with H&M boots and socks.

I played it safe in a navy wool maxi dress from ASOS, worn with a pair of scruffy lace-up old boots. No running in heels for me.

Beauty: Our mini adventure with Asda

by Helen Coakley

Last Thursday Katie and I were treated to a fantastic showcase of all the new bargain beauty potions those chaps at Asda have been cooking up this season.  Now, you might not automatically assume Asda is up there with the likes of Dermalogica and Clarins when it comes to skin care (two of my top recommendations by the way, after YEARS of trial and error) but after being personally introduced to the new ranges that have been developed, as well as having the chance to be treated like princesses for a couple of hours (see our professional make up snaps!) we were mighty impressed by the new beauty products Asda have recently brought out and are currently in the midst of testing all our samples against our usual products.  All in a day’s work!

We also got the chance to meet ’10 Years Younger’ resident hair dresser, Mr Andrew Barton, who took us through his entire new hair care range!   We will let you know our top Asda beauty products from our mini adventure very soon-provided we don’t drown in the bath from all this product testing!

#TodayImWearing an outfit inspired by Coco Chanel

by blondekatie

Stealing that popular, if punctuationally challenged, Twitter hashtag, #TodayImWearing brings you a taste of our personal style whenever we feeling like sharing an outfit.

Today, I like to think I was channeling Coco Chanel. Remember that scene in Coco Before Chanel when she invented a whole new super cool outfit in minutes by chopping up some guy’s riding jacket? Well I took the black silk sash belt from an old dress, tied it as a bowtie and voila, I basically think I’m as cool as Audrey Tatou. Deluded, moi?

Shirt: H&M

Bow tie: silk belt taken from another dress

Jeans: H&M kids department

Boots: Vintage lace-ups from EBay years ago.
