Make no mistake, I freaking love J Crew. I was overjoyed when they finally hit our shores last year (not so overjoyed at the price hike for the UK). However, as classic and beautiful as their last season was, I never found my hero piece – maybe it was due to my impoverished state (cheers Christmas) or perhaps I simply never had that elusive ‘oh my, if I could’ve designed something myself, this is what it would look like’ feeling. However, feeling a bit (a tiny bit) more flush this time around, I’m looking at the Spring Collection with fresh eyes.
What J Crew do best is similar to what we here in Britain have always used Gap, Sunspel, Uniqlo or Espirit for – except with a little more finesse and thus, in all honesty, a fair bit more money. But it’s the little Jenna Lyons touches you’re paying for; the stripe, the tweed, the detail that makes an item go from a classy but nondescript piece to something that people remark upon. Not to mention having a few wardrobe additions from a place where still few Brits have tread. Key accents are bold block colours, Breton stripes, Merino wool and Cashmere, floral bursts and an overall hybrid feel of easy breezy French Riviera meets Sport Luxe that anyone can wear.
Have yourself some highlights (the accessories department is worth checking out if you’re on bit more of a budget) :-
