Sure, white is chic, classic, suits everyone, blah blah blah. But given this strange hiatus of blue skies and sunshine we’re currently experiencing (long may it continue) don’t you just feel that white is so…predictable? Enter in the Ibiza to white’s Cannes, the Pina Colada to white’s gin and tonic – yellow. What yellow embodies is that gung-ho sense that summer is on its merry way; smell the cut grass, see the revellers in the parks prematurely stripping off, hold a spontaneous barbeque and crack out the Pimms. And invite yellow – because yellow maketh the summertime party.
And it goes with all your existing winter clothes – grey jumpers, black handbags or shoes (careful of the bee comparison however), navy jackets…the list goes on! There’s palate-cleansing pastel yellow, or zingy acid lemon or statement mustard, and sure, not all tones suit but the point is, there is a yellow for everyone – and the high street knows it.
So you might not want a head to toe yellow wardrobe, lest it bring out the jaundice in you. But a lemon drizzle here, a ray of sunshine there – and I guarantee that the day you wear your yellow coat/dress/bag/trousers will be a good day.
Here are my six picks from the high street to help you say hello to yellow.
