So what do we know so far? The campaign was styled by Topshop’s creative director and former Vogue editor Kate Phelan, who said, ‘”Cara is a true Topshop girl. Her style is confident and playful and she can be sophisticated and chic as easily as she can be cool and casual.” So there.
The 12 picture campaign was shot by Alisdair McLennan, and the vibe from the previews is something of a retro groupie style; think Marianne Faithfull to Kate Moss and everyone inbetween, shot in a slightly shabby apartment. Spangly minidresses ripe for the Christmas party season aplenty, the collection is also juxtaposed with slouchy white t-shirts and boyish khaki (you know, for the road.)
For the main, this is Cara looking rock-glamorous, complete with guitar that she may or may not be able to play, copious amounts of eyeliner and a Jagger pout. Without a doubt the collection will be a success, appealing to any of us who’ve ever tried to emulate that kind of rough and ready yet fundamentally beautiful edge that was created by the rock star WAGs of years gone by; so in many ways, there’s no one better than fashion’s resident It girl to bring it to the masses.
Christmas list, anyone?
